NEAR FIELD TECHNOLOGY

Near Field technology, is not at all a strange word for us now. Even though it hasn’t conquered the tech world fully, it is expected to make revolution in the field of communication in the near future. So, what is NFC or Near Field Technology?? In simple words, it is a short range wireless communication technique that uses RFID technology for its working. NFC is widely used in smartphones and tablets. It works when the two devices between which the connection is to be established, are at a distance of 20 cm or less. That means it requires the devices to be in less range of distance.

NFC is a fast and convenient way of communication. Its working can be best compared to Bluetooth because both are intended to be used in short range. While Bluetooth needs to set up a connection between the two devices and a pairing code to be matched, NFC eliminates all such requirements. It can be connected directly by keeping the devices in proximity and just by tapping or waving the device across the sensor makes it to work well. NFC technology also uses very less power compared to Bluetooth and thus does not consume the battery much. It has a scope of replacing the Bluetooth technology in the field of E-commerce because of its faster and efficient communication methodology.

Near Field Communication technology has many applications today. It has wide range of uses in E-commerce. It can be used in the platform of social networking by allowing a fast and efficient sharing of files like images, audios, videos etc.  It can be used in contactless payment systems in banking sector. NFC is able to handle electronic documents as well as electronic cards like ATM cards, debit and credit cards etc. It enables us to make quick contactless payments in electronic transactions. One of the striking feature of NFC is that, it is suitable to use in crowded areas with comparatively less interference and thus making the transactions faster. Interesting, right?? Well, in this way, Near Field Communication technique ensures various features like speed, customization as well as security which are the key aspects in any communication technique.

GOODBYE DEAR GEC

What one feels when saying goodbye to the place where one spent four valuable years of their life..?? I don’t think it can be explained. Neither the feeling can be described by any collection of words. The place which brought numerous memories into my life.. The place which made me laugh... the one which brought extreme happy moments... The place which made me cry... the one which brought real sorrows into my life… Thanks for all the experiences and lessons.. I think it’s real time to say goodbye to GEC…

And since the final results are out, I think I can call myself an Engineer now.. Thus proud to proclaim that I’m a B.Tech Graduate now.. Alhamdulillah.. For Allah knows well that without his blessings I would have never made it.. I can’t exactly say what’s running on my mind right now. Mixed emotions are randomly moving across my mind and dominating over my thoughts… Now it’s Post B.Tech life.. Memories are the only thing left behind.. I think I would miss this place…. GOODBYE DEAR GEC…

HUMAN DETECTION USING DOPPLER RADAR

Human detection and tracking are a topic of recent interest because of the increased concerns regarding security and surveillance. Detection and localization of moving human subjects in line-of-sight or through-wall environment can be applied in disaster search-and-rescue operation, physical security, law enforcement, and border patrol. To detect human subjects, various sensor technologies have been developed. They include the use of computer vision, seismic sensor, infrared detectors, lidar, and radar. Among them, radar offers a number of unique advantages compared with the other technologies because it can penetrate obstacles such as walls and can detect targets under various weather conditions. Here,  a method for detecting a human subject using Doppler radar by investigating the physical characteristics of targets is analysed. To classify a target from the Doppler signal, several features related to the physical characteristics of a target are extracted. The features include the frequency of the limb motion, stride, bandwidth of the Doppler signal, and distribution of the signal strength.

Owing to the different lengths of legs and kinematic signatures of the target species, a human subject occupies a unique space in the terms of the stride and the frequency of limb motion. To verify the proposed method, the motions of humans, dogs, bicycles, and vehicles are observed using the developed continuous-wave Doppler radar. The use of the Doppler radar is a natural choice for human detection.  A method for identifying a human subject against other targets using the physical characteristics of a target extracted from the Doppler signals is implemented in this. Human detection has a number of applications in security, surveillance, and search-and-rescue operations.

PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY HARVESTING

In the last few years, there has been an increasing demand for low-power and portable-energy sources due to the development and mass consumption of portable electronic devices. Also, the portable-energy sources must be associated with environmental issues and imposed regulations. In this context, piezoelectric materials are becoming a better alternative for energy generation and storage in future applications.  In locations where traditional power sources may not be available and long periods of unattended operation are required, the power may become inadequate. In such cases, some source of vibrating energy may be present in operation of the machine.

A piezoelectric source is used to generate power for the operation of a microcontroller and radio transmitter. Also, the use of piezoelectric polymers in order to harvest energy from people walking and the fabrication of a shoe capable of generating and accumulating the energy is a new trend. It can be used in wearable healthcare applications where the healthcare device can harvest its needed power, and sense vital signs from the human body. Ecological security is an important issue in the current scenario. Pollution and ecosystem degradation is often encountered with many energy sources. The method of generating eco-friendly electricity using piezoelectric material helps reducing global warming. The model with piezo material converts the scavenged mechanical energy-vibration and rotation to electrical energy for powering the various electric devices. This allows the material to function as a power harvesting medium. The significance of the proposed approach results in generation of electricity in hilly areas using natural resources and in rural areas through tube-well water pressure.

SKINPUT TECHNOLOGY : HUMAN BODY AS AN INPUT SURFACE

The widespread adoption of mobile electronic devices and the advent of wearable computing have encouraged the development of compact alternatives to the keyboard and mouse. This makes the emerging technology called Skinput a relevant one. Skinput is a technology that appropriates the human body for acoustic transmission, allowing the skin to be used as an input surface. We resolve the location of finger taps on the arm and hand by analyzing mechanical vibrations that propagate through the body. We collect these signals using a novel array of sensors worn as an armband. This approach provides an always available, naturally portable, and on-body finger input system. The skinput technology turns the human hand in to a virtual key board.

Skinput is a novel technique for physical communication or interaction, which is focused on mobile devices that utilize ‘skin’ as an info interface. This info interfacing method is an integration of some bio-acoustic sensors and machine learning languages, which helps people, to utilize their fingers, arms or any other part of their bodies as a track pad or touch pad to operate and control various devices. Skinput combines simple bio-acoustic sensors and some sophisticated machine learning to enable people to use their fingers or forearms as touch pads. Different types of finger taps on different parts of the hand and forearm produce unique acoustic signatures. A simple input device used here provides an acoustic signal, which the system decomposes into various unique features. Machine interpretation parses this  features into a unique identification  of the different taps. Skinput gives new meaning to the term “touch typing.”

PEROVSKITE- Brightening Solar Technology

PEROVSKITE,  a cheap material which can be used in making solar cells would cut the cost of a single Watt of solar generating capacity by three-quarters.

Perovskite, is a Calcium Titanium Oxide mineral species, composed of Calcium Titanate, with the chemical formula, CaTiO.  Also, it is available easy. While conventional Silicon Solar panels use materials that are about 180mm thick, the new solar cells use less than 1mm of material to capture the same amount of sunlight.

Solar cells made up of Perovskites have a simple architecture. It can easily be produced in large quantities because the vapour deposition process used to make them is compatible with the conventional processing methods for fabricating such solar cells. Prototype solar panels incorporating nanotechnology are more efficient than standard designs in converting sunlight to electricity, promising inexpensive solar power in the future.

REVIEW- HALF GIRLFRIEND

Half Girlfriend is the story of Madhav and Riya. Chetan Bhagat, the author, also plays an important role in the story. To be simple, Half Girlfriend is a beautiful, yet thrilling love story.

Madhav Jha is from a small village named Dumraon in Bihar. He is from a royal family which almost lost all its power and supremacy, but still counts as landlords for the village folks. He represents the non-English type Indians who are not much confident at speaking in English. But he was destined to be in the famous college of New Delhi, St.Stephens, where one could find only English speaking guys. Being desperate and suppressed, he lost all his confidence. However he was trying to get the admission through sports Quota. He was a very talented Basketball player. At trials, to showcase their performance, he finds a beautiful girl. Riya Somani, the tall, gorgeous girl, with attractive looks, from a high class Marwari family of New Delhi, was also there to prove her talent at the basketball court. Madhav, however took a chance to get acquainted with his dream girl. His coach introduced him to Riya, and they talked to each other for the first time.

Later on, both of them started their life at St.Stephens, New Delhi. Madhav Jha, who was always inferior because of his ‘English’, finds himself much comfortable with Riya. He always needed her presence. Obviously, he fell in love with her. But Riya was a reserved character. She had a lot of friends, Madhav was just one among them. Maybe, we think he was more special, but definitely one cannot call it as ‘love’.  Madhav wanted her to be his girlfriend. But Riya was not ready for that. Still, she agreed to be his HALF GIRLFRIEND. Their relation gets more stronger. Riya sometimes shares some secrets with Madhav, however she was not ready to reveal herself at times. Madhav gets annoyed by her this kind of attitude sometimes, still he was not bothered much because he was deeply in love with her. Riya always considered Madhav as her “Basketball Friend”.

The story continues in Bihar as well as in New York. It brings out many twists and turns and even suspenses at some occasions. The relationship between them is well defined in the remaining part of the story. It is interesting as well as  worth reading. Whether Madhav’s love is succeeding or not is the main question that arises in the mind of the reader, which is depicted beautifully in the story, and ofcourse, the reader gets the answer at the climax of the story. Half Girlfriend is a simple, well said, romantic novel which makes us feel great.

SOLAR CYCLE STAND!!!!

A school in Chandigarh is having a solar- powered cycle stand and also generates its own power!! It thus serves the dual purpose of providing a shaded space for parking and also generates power.
The first solar cycle stand in India, with the capacity of the solar photo voltaic power plant is 15 KWp, which has been installed with a cost of 18.70 Lakhs. The covered area of this cycle stand is 1050 square feet where more than 100 cycles can be accommodated. It was installed on 23 January 2014 and till 24 May 2014 they generated around 7500 units of electricity  and has reduced 4050 Kg of C0 emission.

The project has designed to generate more than 20000 units of electricity per annum. The annual consumption of electricity of the school is about 14000 units and the surplus power of approximately 6000 units annually will be exported to the Chandigarh Electricity Department. A bidirectional energy meter capable of measuring import and export readings has been installed in the project. I think this is an innovative model for everyone to install such systems which serves as a good vehicle stand as well as it provides self sufficiency in the use of required power for the installed institution. In the current scenario of Energy crisis, this is a promising technology which has high relevance and future scope.

TRANSWALL : THE NEW GENERATION TECHNOLOGY

Can glass walls be made more interactive and fun..?? The answer is YES!! This is made possible by a new technology namely, TRANSWALL. Transwall is a two-sided, touchable, transparent display technology. This concept is developed by Woohun Lee and his research team, at KAIST. This prototype has been launched even on a 65” inch screen.  The hardware consists of 2 projectors, 2 plexiglass sheets, holographic screen film, 2 IR touch sensor frames, surface transducer, 2 microphones. Featuring an incorporate surface transducer, Transwall provides audio and vibrotactile feedback to users, enabling people to see, hear, or even touch other people through the wall while enjoying gaming and interpersonal communication.

Imagine a glass surface where we can freely draw, flip and spell, play games, play music, sense the vibrations and communicate with another person who is on the other side of the glass screen. Isn’t it amazing?? Transwall makes this concept come true. Transwall is designed to be installed inside buildings such as shopping centers, museums, and theme parks for people to have an opportunity to collaborate even with strangers in a natural way.  In this way, the simple and silent glass surfaces can be transformed into an active space for creativity, as well as a gaming spot. This is definitely an amazing and promising field and further researches are going on to improve the already developed ideas. Undoubtedly, Transwall gives us an extraordinary social interaction experience.

SAVE GAZA

This isn't a controversial talk about the most relevant issue in the present scenario. Neither is a thought provoking discussion held upon that crisis. This is not a moment to speak from either side of the views of the situation.

This is just a prayer, deep from the core of my heart, for peace, for justice, for humanity!! I plead all out there, the concerned officials, representatives or whatever, to stop this antihumanitarian activities as soon as possible. Anyone who is having a little kindness in their heart can't bear this heart breaking cries of the innocent people. What did those innocent small children do to this world? What harm did they do to anyone? Why their right to live independently is violated so brutally?? Please show a little kindness to them, for they deserve it. My heart weeps out by watching the photos and reports that are out in the Medias. They too are human beings.. What fault those innocent people do to be so brutally murdered?

I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, pray to Almighty for a better tomorrow for them... Where I could see my innocent brothers and sisters of Palestine, lead a peaceful life.  With the thousands of people around the world, my silent prayers are there for them.  Let Palestine be free, and the innocent people in it too..  Let them live peacefully. SAVE GAZA!!!

DOES MODERN TECHNOLOGY MAKES OUR LIFE MORE CONVENIENT?

Thus we could undoubtedly understand the impact of modern technology in various fields. But even, this technology could be a curse for us if we misuse. Everything has a positive and negative impact. Similarly, that technology too have its own bright and dark side. The difference is how we use it. If we misuse the technology, it could definitely become a curse for us. The results off effects off modern technology depends upon how we use it. So it depends upon we, they people to whether make it a boon or a curse. Thus we shouldb make sure that we must use the technology properly so that it will help us to make our life convenient.

Thus, to conclude modern technology could surely  make our life more convenient and comfortable unless we never use it for any destructive purpose s. So we should user the modern technology in a right sense, in a proper way so that it may bring about better amenities and facilities which can make our life more convenient. Thus, we can be sure that the modern technology make life more convenient and this had been proved by the various inventions and discoveries made in the last century. The technology could astonish the world with even more exciting inventions in the near future.

DOES MODERN TECHNOLOGY MAKES OUR LIFE MORE CONVENIENT?

Modern inventions like AC, microwave oven, dishwashers, iPod notebook computers and many other equipments had increased convenience in the household sector also. By new inventions, the work done by the house wives and labourers had reduced a lot. Nowadays, it is very easy for a lady to do household work, with the help of dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens etc.. These modern amenities had reduced considerably the effort of people and saves a lot of time.. Even, by the invention of laptops and palmtops, the work that has to be done in the offices and share markets have also reduced a lot. As a result, the work loads has decreased and it saves the valuable time also.

Modern technology has helped a lot in the education sector too.. By modern facilities like satellite telecasting(INSAT), video conferencing etc.. it's quite easy for a student to communicate with a professor specialized in any subject and clear his/ her doubts. This is possible with the help of modern technology. And nowadays, the Government has increased facilities in many schools even in the rural areas. They are aiming at the total development of rural areas and focusing their upliftment. For that, the Government made available internet connections in most of the higher secondary schools. They are also planning to give computers to many primary schools so that the children could study the basics of computer and this feel the impact of modern technology. This would definitely create a talented young generation.

DOES MODERN TECHNOLOGY MAKES OUR LIFE MORE COMFORTABLE?

Another field where the modern technology had proved its ability its the field of space. New inventions had been found each day. New satellites are made year by year. Our country had launched many satellite s for various purposes like education, telecommunication, defence, study of oceans, radio broadcasting, etc.. Some among them are INSAT, EDUSAT, ARYABHATTA, etc.. This has been possible only with the help of modern technology. Even, we had sent many satellites for studying about mars, Venus etc.. and also to study about earths satellite moon. India's satellite mission CHANDRAYAAN is continuing its explorations and discoveries in the space. It has been a moment of great pride for us, Indians, when CHANDRAYAAN discovered the presence of water in moon. This created new hope for scientists. So we could expect more good news from this sector.

The modern technology had explored the use of nuclear power. Unfortunately, it was a thought to be a devastating and destructing power. As it was used in bombs which blasted in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it was declared a killer power. Even now, it is quite commonly used in nuclear weapons. But in the beginning of 20th century, the importance of nuclear power has identified. Nowadays, we use it for generating electricity as well as in nuclear reactors. The wide applications of nuclear power was discovered and now it is usefully explored. It's good effects are used industrially and it is economically viable. At present its bad effects are not used by many countries except using it in nuclear weapons.

DOES MODERN TECHNOLOGY MAKE OUR LIFE MORE COMFORTABLE?

Modern technology had its growing progress in the field of telecommunication too... Now it's quite easy for a man living in USA to contact another man who lives in some unknown village in any African countries! This is not an astonishing news today. This had made possible by the modern technology in the communication field. By thev invention of mobile phones and internet this had become common. It's very easy to communicate with any person living in any corner of the world. And of course internet provides wide job opportunities as well as online shopping. Apart from communication alone, this provides facilities for shopping from any online stores which is just at a distance of a mouse click. This facility had invented wide attention among all kinds of people. And this made internet popular among common people.

Mobile phones, again provides a great opportunity to keep contact with anyone at any time. It's quite useful to keep in touch with anyone when we are in a heavy traffic or we are in a trouble etc... This small gadget has helped us a lot to be in touch with our friends and family. And nowadays, the music player, GPRS, Bluetooth, FM, GPS, WiFi and instant connection with the social networking sites and many such facilities had made mobile phones really made mobile phones really a boon to us.. All these took us to the world of fun and enjoyment. Even, this made our life more comfortable and convenient.

Modern Technology have paved the way for the convenient life of the people. The science and technology had introduced many amenities that made our life more comfortable. At last, the technology had instilled the other medias for making the developments in the respective medias.

The glorified impact of science and technology is found in various sectors like medicine, telecommunication, broadcasting, space, education as well as other sectors too..  This is quite amazing. The last century had witnessed the rapid growth of science and technology in all these sectors.
For instance, let us take the health and medicine sector for the last few years, it was tremendous. It was in the middle of the last century that Dr.Christian Bernard revolutionized the medicinal sector by successfully completing a heart transplant surgery. It was the first step of the progress of medicinal sector. After that, the technology had been developing and many other inventions were made. It includes artificial pacemaker, artificial blood, test-tube baby, etc.. We can definitely say that the technology had made the life expectancy of man to increase and the life was made more convenient. Now, the inventions are going on and we can be sure that in the near future, this sector would come up with medicines for many dangerous diseases.
