A school in Chandigarh is having a solar-
powered cycle stand and also generates its own power!! It thus serves the dual
purpose of providing a shaded space for parking and also generates power.
The first solar cycle stand in
India, with the capacity of the solar photo voltaic power plant is 15 KWp,
which has been installed with a cost of 18.70 Lakhs. The covered area of this
cycle stand is 1050 square feet where more than 100 cycles can be accommodated.
It was installed on 23 January 2014 and till 24 May 2014 they generated around
7500 units of electricity and has
reduced 4050 Kg of C0₂ emission.
The project has designed to
generate more than 20000 units of electricity per annum. The annual consumption
of electricity of the school is about 14000 units and the surplus power of
approximately 6000 units annually will be exported to the Chandigarh Electricity
Department. A bidirectional energy meter capable of measuring import and export
readings has been installed in the project. I think this is an innovative model
for everyone to install such systems which serves as a good vehicle stand as
well as it provides self sufficiency in the use of required power for the
installed institution. In the current scenario of Energy crisis, this is a
promising technology which has high relevance and future scope.
